What Does World Down Syndrome Day Mean To You

Did you know that World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is a global awareness day that has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012?
A day of global celebration and awareness to help educate our society of what Down Syndrome is, hear stories from self-advocates of what it means to have Down syndrome and how individuals with Down Syndrome have the right to live a full and meaningful life and be recognized a contributing member of their community.
So why is it celebrated on March 21st?
It was chosen to be celebrated on the 21st day of the 3rd month. Down Syndrome is caused by the triplication (3) of the 21st chromosome.
This campaign was created to share and celebrate what Down Syndrome means to self-advocates, to their families, and to anyone that has had the privilege to know, teach or work with an individual with Down Syndrome.
Let’s share with the world the beauty of Down Syndrome. Recognize their worth and their abilities.
Thank you to those that participated in this campaign. Here is the video I created to celebrate this day and individuals with Down Syndrome!
